Directed by Jeremy SkidmoreThe Night Fairy is a tale of big adventure in a miniature world in which a night fairy discovers a renewed sense of creativity, diplomacy, and resilience after being attacked by a bat.

The Night Fairy, best for ages 4-10, runs September 24 through October 26 in Imagination Stage’s Annette M. and Theodore N. Lerner Family Theatre. Laura Amy Schlitz has captured a drama that unfolds in a place very like our own back yards in her book The Night Fairy, adapted for the stage by John Glore. Flory finds herself stranded in the world of daytime where she must learn how to survive in unfamiliar surroundings. Her greater challenge is in learning to manage the many personalities of the creatures who share the garden-scape, including a squirrel, hummingbird, spider, raccoon, and her nemesis, a bat. The world that initially seemed so alien to our heroine becomes a home where love, bravery, and understanding all blossom.

The Night Fairy is a high stakes adventure story of survival and friendship that takes place in miniature,” says Artistic Director Janet Stanford. “From their seats in the Lerner Theatre, our audience will feel like tiny insects inside a huge-scale world taken right from their own back yards!” Imagination Stage is starting this season off in a big way, and “we are excited to welcome top artistic talents to our theatre to design and direct this show. Highly acclaimed Washington, DC Director Jeremy Skidmore, makes his Imagination Stage debut and teams up with British Scenic Designer Patrick Watkinson whose designs have been seen in South Africa, Europe, and the U.K. The cast features much loved Imagination Stage actresses Tia Shearer, Megan Graves, and Felicia Curry, who are joined by local award-winning actressErin Weaver as the Night Fairy’s best friend, Skuggle the squirrel. With this high-powered company, we know that the show is going to be spectacular.”
