At first glance, the latest show at Studio Theater seems totally misnamed – “Tribes” has absolutely nothing to do with American Indians or related indigenous people. It is set in a contemporary upper middle class British family. As the show continues, the title suddenly makes a lot more sense.
Various themes come and go on the social radar, and there are plays written about these topics. Subject matter can range from war to AIDS to the current political situation, but there is one perennial topic that playwrights never tire of writing about – and that is the theater world itself.
