What Do You Think?

Same sex marriage headed for November ballot

Barring any unforeseen events it would appear Maryland voters will decide this November if same sex marriage is legal in Maryland.
The Maryland Marriage Alliance announced Monday they will turn in more than 156,000 signatures from people supporting marriage between a man and a woman- only. Opponents of same sex marriage needed 56,000 votes to force a referendum on the issue.
Derek McCoy, Chairman of the Maryland Marriage Alliance, which sponsored the petition drive says he expects to overturn state law in November.

“We’ve done a lot better than we expected. In Montgomery County alone we collected 20,000 signatures. We have full expectations to win on November 6. Same sex marriage has been voted down before and we don’t see why Maryland will be different. I know there are polls that say otherwise, but I think they can be misleading at times,” said McCoy.

According to McCoy, the Maryland Marriage Alliance represents two million people in Maryland.
“We have distribution centers around the state that will help get the word out about voting in November. We’ll also be holding events, knocking on doors, handing out press releases, phone banking, handing out fliers, and a lot more to spread the word. It’s going to be a very busy summer,” said McCoy.
