You'd better run all night to get away from Liam

21128 382318508621488 5833435230435975367 n“Run All Night” is a 114 minute R Rated Crime Action/Drama directed by Jaume Collet-Serra starring Liam Neeson (Jimmy Conlon), Joel Kinnaman (Mike Conlon), Common (Mr. Price), Ed Harris (Shawn Maguire), Genesis Rodriguez (Gabrielle) and Vincent D’Onofrio (Detective Harding).

Jimmy Conlon is a down- and- out alcoholic who was once a gangster and prolific hit- man. His ex-boss and good friend, mobster Shawn Magurie, looks out for Jimmy and protects him. When Jimmy is forced to kill Maguire’s homicidal, drug-dealing son in order to save his own estranged son, he incurs the wrath of Maguire who wants revenge. Jimmy is forced to take drastic action in order to protect his son and his family from deadly retaliation.

This is an intense movie with a hard R Rating that includes excessive violence, blood and gore. The casting /acting of Neeson and Harris are brilliant. Joel Kinnaman (from the hit TV series, “The Killing”) delivers a compelling performance as Conlon’s son. “Run All Night” moves slowly in the very beginning but the action quickly gets going and never stops. Although Neeson has played the role of a “sympathetic” justified killer many times before, it never seems to gets old. The plot is simple but interesting. There is a great chase scene under the elevated train in Queens which is reminiscent of 1971 “The French Connection”. The ending is not predictable and the final scene is riveting and dramatic.

There are a few loose ends, red herrings and editing flaws which do not detract overall from the movie. I think this is a better-than-average-action flick, especially if you like Liam Neeson. This movie is not for everyone but will appeal to those who like action/ crime dramas. I give “Run All Night” a 7.0 on the ABBONDANZOMETER (Scale of 1-10).
