MDterpswomenCHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –  Senior Alyssa Thomas led No. 6 Maryland with 27 points and 10 rebounds, but the Terrapins were outscored in the second half to fall 86-72 at Virginia Thursday. The senior became the fourth Terp to hit 2,000 points during Thursday’s matchup.

Thomas picked up her 16th double-double of the year in the Terps’ 18 games. Senior Alicia DeVaughn added 14 points, 12 in the second half, as the Terrapins (16-2, 4-1 ACC) worked throughout the period. After holding a four-point lead at the break, Virginia outscored Maryland 52-34 in the second half for the win.

Thomas entered Thursday’s game with 1,993 career points. She hit the 2,000 mark midway through the first half. Just three other Terrapins have hit the 2,000 point mark – Kristi Toliver (2,078), Marissa Coleman (2,205) and Crystal Langhorne (2,247).

The two teams saw nine lead changes in the first half with Maryland leading 38-34 at halftime. Coming out of the break, Virginia went on a 14-5 run that gave them a 47-43 lead with just under 16 minutes to play.

Both team’s offenses shot 50 percent for the game. Virginia hit 8-of-18 field goals for 44.4 percent.
