Ninth ranked Lady Terps welcome Pitt

basketballhoopsCOLLEGE PARK, Md. – The ninth-ranked Maryland women’s basketball team will host ACC newcomer Pittsburgh Thursday for a 7 p.m. tipoff at Comcast Center. The Terrapins will be celebrating National Girls & Women in Sports Day at Thursday’s contest.

Youth are invited to “Train with the Terps” beginning with check-in at 5:15 p.m.  Members of Maryland’s women’s teams will be on hand to participate in various sports from 5:30-6:45 p.m.  Following the event, participants will move to the main floor for the Terps-Panthers game.

Parents can register their youth (girls, grades K-8) by clicking here.  Parents are invited to call the ticket office at 1-800-IM-A-TERP to order tickets for the game.  Youth are free. The event is limited to the first 200 participants registered.

National Player of the Year candidate Alyssa Thomas notched her fifth career triple-double and freshman Lexie Brown added a career-high 31 points as Maryland (17-4, 5-3 ACC) cruised to an 89-64 win at the Carrier Dome Sunday afternoon.

Thomas had 11 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists for her third triple-double this year. She has had a triple or double-double in 18 of the Terrapins’ 21 games. She is one of just five players in NCAA history to notch five or more triple-doubles in a career.

Brown went 7-for-8 from outside the arc for her career-high 31. She added seven assists as the Terrapins (17-4, 5-3 ACC) notched 25 assists on 35 field goals made. Freshman center Brionna Jones, who made her first career start Sunday, added 10 points and freshman Shatori Walker-Kimbrough had 17, including 14 in the first half.

Pittsburgh (10-12, 2-6) is coming off of a 77-66 loss to Georgia Tech Monday night. Maryland owns the all-time record over the Panthers, 7-1.

The Terrapins are ranked No. 10 in the latest Associated Press and No. 9 in the USA Today Coaches poll.

Next, the Terrapins will host Clemson Sunday at 2 p.m. in the annual Pink Game to support breast cancer awareness. All breast cancer survivors can get in free and any fan wearing pink can $1 off a ticket.
