Whitman hopes to turn its youth into its strength

Walt Whitman Vikings

Head Coach: Jim Kuhn

Offense: The Vikings will setup in a spread option.

Defense: On defense will use a 4-2-5 formation.

Players to Watch: The Vikings have strength in the trenches. Senior linemen Mark Hunley and Nick Sobezyk will put in time on both offense and defense.

Scouting Report: The Vikings have seven returning starters on defense and two on offense. The toughest game for the young Whitman squad will be right out of the gate when they face Wootton.

Coach’s Comments: “We are very young and the jury is still out right now. We are trying to build this year with a lot of new faces. We will play hard and try to win some games and hopefully get the younger guys some confidence to build on. It’s going to be tough. We are very new.” – Jim Kuhn

Breakaway Potential: The Vikings finished 5-5 last year. Three of those games were lost by three touchdowns or less. But as Kuhn mentioned they are a young team and graduated a lot of players in 2012. Senior leadership could be key on how well the younger guys perform. Their schedule is an exact mirror of last year so the teams should be familiar. The Vikings may have a good chance of winning a few more games this year. The good thing about a young team is their future potential. Perhaps 2013 can be a break through year?
