Landon senior lacrosse standouts Charlie Schnider and Alex Joyce finished their high school careers May 12 by helping lead the Bears to the Bethesda school’s 28th Interstate Athletic Conference championship.

Schnider and Joyce have been honored with a selection to the 2012 Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic to be played June 30 at Towson University. The seventh annual event will feature the nation’s top high school senior boys and girls. Schnider and Joyce are the lone representatives from Montgomery County selected for this year’s game.

Landon recently avenged a regular season loss to Bullis with a hard-fought 7-4 victory over the Bulldogs in the IAC title game.

“It means the world to me,” said Schnider, a midfielder and team captain bound for Ohio State. “I know last year we won 18 games straight. [We] went into the championship really on a high horse and Georgetown Prep beat us so we knew coming into the season this was our only goal.”

Joyce, a goaltender, was sensational in the IAC championship, recording ten saves against the Bulldogs.

“He’s played unstoppable all year round,” said Schnider. “It really started in the Haverford game early in the season [when] he completely shut down one of the top offenses in the nation.”

Joyce has signed with Georgetown and will head to the Washington, D.C. campus this fall.

“I’m real excited,” said Joyce. “They got a great program. I love the coaches and I’ve been in a lot of contact with them and I really like the way it’s headed so I’m really excited about that.”
