Wootton pounds Q.O. in lacrosse

laxROCKVILLE – Wootton’s boys lacrosse team, a perennial power in Montgomery County, dominated Friday’s matchup with visiting Quince Orchard as four players combined for 15 goals in an 18-7 victory over the Cougars.

Wootton junior attack Austin Schoenfeld scored five goals, sophomore attack Myles Romm added four goals while senior midfielder Joe Kelly and junior attack Jake Mitchell each scored a hat trick in the win. The Patriots improved their record to 3-1.

“I thought we cleared the ball well and that helped [us get the win],” said Wootton head coach Colin Thomson. “I thought overall I thought the offense executed.”

Meanwhile, Quince Orchard (1-3) was led by senior attack Dylan Chaikin who netted a hat trick in the Cougars’ loss.

“Expectations for the season are very high,” said Quince Orchard head coach David Gonzalez. “We have 13 seniors who work very hard. Expectations are high. We definitely expect nothing less than our goal of making it to the regional championship.”
