ROCKVILLE - The Wootton High School boys’ lacrosse team defeated Sherwood High School 9-4 at home Thursday night in a matchup of teams expected to be contenders for a state title this season.
A trio of underclassmen led the way for Wootton. Sophomore attacker Myles Romm scored a game-high three goals and junior attacker Jake Mitchell scored a goal to go along with three assists. Junior midfielder Matt Saltzman chipped in with two goals. Senior goalie and team captain Matt Hoy made eight saves.
COLLEGE PARK – In the sport of wrestling, athletes tend to move up weight classes as they progress from year to year. But for Wootton senior Ralph Bernardo, he decided to do the opposite.
After wrestling at heavyweight during his sophomore season, Bernardo dropped down to 220-pounds as a junior last year. He found immediate success and placed third in the MPSSAA 3A/4A wrestling tournament at his new weight.
