SILVER SPRING - An “on the loose” fan running across the field, a fight breaking out on the sideline, an ejection and multiple unanswered touchdowns made for an interesting night as Springbrook beat Gaithersburg 20-7.

“Hats off to Gaithersburg, they played very hard until the very end.  And hats off to our kids, who also played hard.  It was a fun football game,” said Springbrook Head Coach Adam Bahr.  “We had a lot of penalties tonight and we need to eliminate those.  We’ve got to get in and look at the film and where we made our mistakes.  We want to get better every week.”

Springbrook Running Back Terrence Caudle set the tone for the game early, working the ball from Gaithersburg’s 42-yard line all the way into the end zone.  Caudle got Springbrook a first down on a fourth and long to move the ball to the 32-yard line. He then barreled through a pack of Trojan defenders to carry for another 21 yards, and then finally brought in a three-yard touchdown.

Springbrook Kicker Abdoulie Jallow missed the field goal attempt, bringing the score to 6-0 with 3:55 left in the first quarter.  No other points were scored in the first quarter.

Late in the third quarter, Gaithersburg missed a snap, but Trojan’s Quarterback Nick DeCarlo recovered the ball and barely managed to avoid a safety.  Kicker Zak Keres shanked the punt, allowing Springbrook to take over on Gaithersburg’s 11-yard line.

Caudle carried the ball in for a 10-yard touchdown to bring the score to 12-0 with 4:02 left in the third quarter.  Jallow swallowed the extra point, again.

“We had a hard time stopping them when we needed to,” said Gaithersburg Head Coach Kreg Kephart.  “They were aggressive on defense."

After being shut down the entire game, Soloman Vault carried the ball in for a three-yard touchdown with 11:30 left in the game.  The officials called an illegal substitution on Gaithersburg allowing Keres half the distance to goal, which he then easily put the ball through the fork for the extra point, 12-7.

Springbrook’s Quarterback Neiman Blain with no other options ran the ball to Gaithersburg’s sideline for extra yards and the Trojans got a late hit on him.  A sideline fight broke out and Trojan Linebacker Mike Datu got himself ejected from the game. In addition, a personal foul was called resulting in a 15-yard penalty and in a flash, Springbrook was sitting in the Trojan’s red zone once again.

Caudle got in the last touchdown of the game with 9:19 left in the game.

“I couldn’t have done it without my whole line and my whole team,” said Caudle.

Blain with a QB sneak pulled off a two-point conversion to end the game at 20-7.

“The last touchdown we had about 30 yards of unnecessary roughness penalties and that is inexcusable,” said Kephart.  “That’s something that we don’t tolerate.  I’ve been here a long time in Gaithersburg and if we try and do anything right we try to do things classy.  Getting out of control like that and losing your composure doesn’t help anybody out.  That hurt us bad.”

Springbrook faces Walter Johnson next week and Gaithersburg will head over to Sherwood.

“I coached at Walter Johnson and we’re going to beat the s*** outta them too,” said Springbrook Asst. Coach Tim Nori to two players on the sideline.
