ROCKVILLE-Rockville Town Square has seen a number of milestones in 2012. It celebrated its 5th anniversary andDawson’s Market opening in a month to name a couple. The newest business to open is bringing healthy and tasty drinks to town square.
Mr. Smoothie on Maryland Avenue held it’s grand opening September 8 and the smoothie shop is looking forward to serving downtown Rockville with a wide variety of delicious smoothies that also are quite healthy.
Jorge Cedillo, Manager, has been with Mr. Smoothie for 14 years and says he is looking forward to doing business in the brand new location. “The grand opening was good. A lot of people showed up and tried a lot of what we offer. I think they really liked our smoothies and drinks. A lot said they were coming back. It’s exciting,” said Cedillo.
Mr. Smoothie strives to provide the best products for its smoothies and juices. Cedillo says Mr. Smoothie uses fresh fruits and vegetables for their drinks. The smoothies feature fruit, low fat yogurt, ice, and a splash of water to create a delicious drink that isn’t overloaded with extra sugars.
“A lot of people are into fitness and physical health and we have a perfect drink for them. People may want a healthy drink before or after work instead of a soda. So having a smoothie with made with fresh fruits or vegetables is a great option,” said Cedillo. “We are very popular with people going to and coming from gyms.”
To further cater to the fitness and gym crowd Mr. Smoothie offers a number of supplements and boosts that can be added to any drink. Additionally, they also offer yogurt parfaits, fruit cups, and juices.
Mr. Smoothie also has a line of frozen coffee drinks for the morning crowd seeking a healthier alternative to an ordinary coffee. Cedillo says the Fit Frappe comes with 30 grams of protein and is very popular with people heading to the gym in the morning or going into work.
Cedillo says three of their most popular drinks are the Strawberry/Banana, Strawberry/Pineapple, and the Orange/Mango smoothies. Cedillo says his favorite is the Strawberry/Banana/Orange smoothie. “I really like that one because even though it’s all mixed you can still taste the fruit,” said Cedillo.
Cedillo says the initial reaction and business has been good. He said many of his customers come from the apartments above the store and the gym just down the street. In fact Mr. Smoothie is offering discounts to people that live in the apartments above the store and members of the Gold’s Gym inRockville Town Square.
Even though fall is not far off Cedillo says there may be plans for more hot drinks like apple cider and hot coco to boost business during the colder months. “You’d be surprised cold smoothies do pretty well when it’s cold. You know you have on so many layers it can get hot. Some people like a cool drink sometimes,” said Cedillo. “We’re looking forward to doing a lot of business in the coming months.”
